The Wymondham Abbey is a Grade I listed building that was founded in 1107 and is open to visitors 7 days a week. In 2015, it saw a £2.5 million development which added an activity area for school visits, a display of the Abbey’s history, meeting rooms, toilets, and space to display the archive of historical artifacts. Most of the Abbey was demolished in 1538, and the remaining building is about half of its original length. 

The Wymondham Heritage Museum is located in the historic Bridewell building which was built in 1785 and was originally a prison. It was the first prison in England to have separate cells for inmates. From 1850 to 1963 it was a police station, and it was a magistrates court from 1879 to 1992. The Wymondham Bridewell Preservation Trust bought the building in 1994, and today it houses the Wymondham Heritage Museum. You’ll find displays about things like the Great Fire of 1615 and the 400-year-old Market Cross.
