In the rest of the Newcastle City Council Area, parking restrictions are mostly found on bus routes and main roads to keep the traffic moving in the busiest times. Restrictions in residential areas make schools, junctions and crossings safer.

Car

Newcastle can be reached from cities such as Leeds and York by the A1, While the M6 connects Newcastle to Manchester in an hour by car. The A68 will take you further North, towards Edinburgh.

Newcastle Park and Ride has over 500 free parking spaces located at Newcastle Great Park, just off the A1 and the bus operates every 20 minutes between the Great Park, Regent Centre, Gosforth and Newcastle City Centre.

Train

Newcastle Railway Station is on the East Coast Main Line and is a Grade I listed building opened in 1850. It is both a terminus and through-station on the main line between London and Edinburgh, the Durham Coast Line to Middlesbrough and Nunthorpe also the Tyne Valley Line to Carlisle via Hexham.

Vehicles parked and clearly displaying a valid blue badge in the correct manner can park free of charge in all Newcastle City Council operated car parks in disabled bays and pay-and-display bays. The blue badge does not provide an exemption from other bays reserved from general use, such as Citypark permit bays.
