Located in Linlithgow, around 15 miles from Edinburgh, Linlithgow Palace is the famous birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. The Palace is now a ruin after being burnt in 1746, although it was a residence of Scotland’s monarchs throughout the 15th and 16th centuries.

King James I rebuilt the Church of St Michael after Linlithgow was partly destroyed by a fire in 1424. The Church of St Michael is next to Linlithgow Palace, and in the following years, the palace was built and added to.
