The Royal Hospital for Sick Children is located on Sciennes Road, just south of the Edinburgh city centre below the Meadows public park. It provides care for children from birth until they turn 13, although some specialists will see children up to their 16th birthday. 

The hospital opened in 1860 and is still providing care to young people today. The current building opened in 1895, and construction is currently being carried out on the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, which will eventually replace the current hospital. 

The Royal Hospital for Sick Children also employs Health Play Specialists who hold a Diploma or Degree in Healthcare Play Specialism, as well as Play assistants who have a child care qualification and plenty of experience in child care. They provide activities and toys for the children while they’re in hospital, and they help to prepare children for procedures.

• Entry from 07:00 to 14:59: £2.80
• Entry from 15:00 to 18:59: £2.20
• Entry from 19:00 to 23:59: £1.20
• Maximum rate for any 24 hour period: £19.00
