Stirling Castle, situated in the vibrant city of Stirling in Central Scotland. Both architecturally and historically, it is one of the biggest and highly vital castles in the whole of Scotland. The striking castle lies upon Castle Hill, a plutonic rock crag which shapes a portion of the Stirling Sill geological formation.

A Number Of Scottish Kings and Queens were crowned at Stirling Castle, this included Mary, Queen of Scots, in 1542.

Now, Stirling Castle is a UK Scheduled Ancient Monument and a very popular tourist attraction, open all year round. It was visited by over 605,000 people in 2018. The castle is run by Historic Environment Scotland. The castle esplanade has been used countless times for open-air concerts. Also, the likes of R.E.M, Bob Dylan and Rod Stewart have filmed concert DVDs there.

At Stirling Castle, there is a large tarmac parking area, known as the esplanade. This space has plentiful standard parking spaces. By Train:

Stirling Station (FK8 1PF) is on Goosecroft Road. The station has arrivals and departures across Scotland to the likes of Glasgow Queen Street, Edinburgh and Inverness. As well as into the capital of England, London Kings Cross.

Stirling Castle is a seven minute car ride, a 15 minute bus journey or a 15 minute walk, making it reachable from any mode of transport.

Bow Street bus stop is an eight minute walk away and is serviced by bus P2.

The Smith Institute is a 10 minute walk away and is serviced by the X10.

By Car:

Stirling Castle lies centrally and is a short distance from the M9 and M80, leading to Edinburgh and Glasgow respectively. They join onto arterial routes spanning throughout Scotland and into the North of England.

On Foot:

Getting off a bus at either the coach station or other bus stops is an eight, 10 or 14 minute walk away.

It is a 15 minute walk from Stirling train station.

By Plane:

The nearest major airport to Stirling Castle is Edinburgh airport (EH12 9DN).

It takes 36 minutes by car, there is a shuttle bus service which runs every four hours directly to Edinburgh airport and takes around 58 minutes.

There are five accessible blue badge holders situated outside of the castle. Parking is free of charge for four hours to blue badge holders who park in these spaces. It must be noted that due to the limited number of spaces, they are offered on a first come first serve basis when buying an entry ticket.
