You can go fishing at the Loch, and although it used to be known for its brown trout, you’ll mostly find rainbow trout here. Only fly fishing is allowed in the loch, and you must return all fish less than 10 inches to the water. You must also return all brown trout. It drew 94,718 visitors in 2018, and is open to visitors all year round for a small cost.

Yes, however, you must apply for a permit first, and follow the rules of the Forth Area Federation Of Anglers. The following rules apply:

• You must only fly fish in the loch, and you cannot use lead weights. 
• You must have applied for and received a permit. 
• All fish under 10 inches must be returned to the water.
• All brown trout must be returned to the water. 
• Fish finders are not permitted. 
• Landing on islands is not permitted.
• When you leave the loch, a record of your catch must be given to the duty boatman.
