Wallington is an illustrious town in Greater London and lies only 9.7 miles South of South West Charing Cross. It is a part of the London Borough of Sutton, which is a leading performing borough for education in the UK. The name Wallington originates from the Anglo Saxon word Waletone, which means village of Britons. The town was mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086 and was held by William the Conqueror.
Wallington was a key epicentre of the manufacture of lavender oil in the 19th and early 20th century, up until around the First World War and the growing of lavender and her was extremely notorious in the area during the Victorian era. An annual tradition of the Wallington May Queen has been celebrated in the town since 1902. Girls at the age of three begin as fairies and as they age, so does their rolls in the precession, to attendants to the May Queen, followed by crown bearers, to banner bearers, then princes, until they are finally eligible to be a May Queen at nine years old.
Since the new millennium, Wallington has modernised dramatically with new retailers and restaurants opening, as well as luxury flat developments opposite the train station, making it a popular town to commute in central London.

Wallington has a wonderful farmers' market that is held on the second Saturday of each month from 9.00am to 1.00pm. It is a haven of fresh local produce including meats, poultry, fruit and vegetables and more, all from within the region and surrounding ones. There are usually around 28 local stores each month.
A short 25 minute drive away or a half an hour direct train, is the luscious 250 acre Nonsuch Park which houses the Nonsuch mansion house in the centre of the park. Nonsuch is steeped in history, the palace which a small remnant is all that’s left of this once magnificent building, was started by King Henry VIII in 1538 and finished by Henry Fitzalan in 1556. The palace was demolished and parts of the park were sold to cover the gambling debts of Barbara Villiers.
Or maybe Beddington park takes your fancy more, the park has been said to be one of the most richly archaeological and historical sites within the South West of London, with strong ties and evidence found dating back to the Bronze age. As well as the 1930 discovery of a Roman stone coffin, which suggests a Roman villa and bath house, once stood within the park grounds. It sits in 143 acres across three towns, has a manor that sits proudly inside and the river Wandle snakes it way through.
