Merton Civic Centre is the headquarters of the London Borough of Merton, and is located on London Road in Morden. It’s just 7 minutes drive from the Wimbledon area, and is about 40 minutes drive from central London. 

Within Merton Civic Centre, you’ll find the Morden Library and the Merton Heritage and Local Studies Centre. Morden is home to the Bait'ul Futuh Mosque, the largest mosque in Western Europe. It opened in 2003 and cost about £5.5 million to build, covering an area of 5.2 acres. It can hold up to 10,000 worshippers at any one time. 

Morden Hall Park is a National Trust park, covering 125 acres. The River Wandle runs through the park, and there are over 135 gardens to explore. You can help out at volunteering days, or join the photography group. The rose garden was created in around 1921 and currently has around 1,600 roses in total, and 40 different varieties. There’s even a garden centre so you can take a little greenery home with you.

St Lawrence Church was built in the 1630s and is a Grade I listed building. It hosts services throughout the week, with clubs on Fridays and Sundays for children, as well as a holiday club in the summer. Wimbledon Park is just 10 minutes’ drive from Morden, where you’ll find a lake, athletics track, golf club, and tennis courts. It’s also home to the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, and the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum.

By Train: The South Merton train station is a 10-minute walk from Merton Civic Centre and services the Thameslink line. 

By Bus: There are several bus lines that run through by Merton Civic Centre, including 80, 93, 118, 154, 157, 163, 164, 201, 293, 413, 470, and K5. 

By Car: Merton Civic Centre is located just off the A24 in Morden. 

By Underground: The Morden underground station is a 2-minute walk away and services the Northern line.

How old is Morden? 

There is evidence of human activity in the area dating all the way back the Iron Age, although the first major development of the area was the constriction of Stane Street from Chichester to London by the Romans sometime in the 1st century.
