Parking in Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf is a unique area in London located on the Isle of Dogs. What used to be a derelict dockland is now home to 97 acres of office and retail space with a booming financial centre.

While you’re in the area, check out the Museum of London Docklands, which tells the story of the local area and has a hands-on exhibition section dedicated to Mud Larking! If it’s shopping you’re after, head to Canary Wharf Shopping Centre, with high-end fashion labels and high street names. For an oasis of calm, The Crossrail Place Roof Garden is a great way to spend an afternoon, where the plants are arranged according to the hemisphere in a beautiful greenhouse designed by architects Foster + Partners.

Canary Wharf has a certain buzz, set right on the river and with an abundance of history, making it an exciting place to explore both during the working week and on the weekend. You’ll be spoilt for choice for dining options, and places to shop and drink.

Most of the on-street parking in Canary Wharf is restricted, making it particularly difficult for city centre commuters and visitors to find reasonably priced parking to suit their needs. This often makes it unaffordable for those who have to drive to and from the city every day.

As a cheaper alternative to short-term parking, you can spend £10 in Waitrose Food & Home Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays, and enjoy 2 hours’ free parking. To get 2 hours’ free parking, ask for your ticket to be validated at the point of purchase and use in the pay on foot machines before returning to your car.

For those travelling our side of London there's no need to worry about the Congestion Charge Zone, with the boundary located a number of miles to the west by Tower Bridge. 

From Canary Wharf you can take the DLR to explore the Greenwich Peninsular, home to the 02 Arena which has a changing programme of a range of fantastic shows and concerts. Before a viewing, head into Greenwich Village, and take a stroll in Greenwich Park. If it’s a clear day you can admire the views across to London from SevernDroog Castle, or book in to see the stars from the Royal Greenwich Observatory.

Alternatively, a short journey west takes you to Whitechapel, where you can take in the latest exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery and discover many other creative hubs. For lunch, there are delicious stalls at Old Spitalfields Market, the perfect accompaniment to Brick Lane Shopping.

Other popular locations nearby include Blackheath and Shooters Hill; Southwark, home to the Tate Modern; and Bermondsey with the White Cube Gallery and independent delis including the famous José tapas bar.

Car

From Central London, you can reach Canary Wharf by the A1023, which takes you directly to Westminster along the bank of the Thames. Alternatively, the A13 through Whitechapel connects to the A12 going north, reaching Stratford and the M25.

Train

Canary Wharf station is on the Jubilee Line, with swift connection to London Bridge, Westminster and Waterloo. The DLR network runs from Bank and Tower Gateway to Stratford, Beckton and Lewisham.   

River Bus

Thames Clippers currently operates four peak services per hour to Canary Wharf pier from central London (Waterloo) in the west and Woolwich in the east.

There are charging points located at several different locations across Canary Wharf, including at Canary Wharf Shopping Centre and Waitrose Canary Wharf.  

As you may already know, that Blue Badge allows you to park in more places, for longer, and often free of charge!

In Canary Wharf there are many designated disabled parking bays for Blue Badge holders at various locations. You can view these bays on the Tower Hamlets Council online map viewer.

Vehicles displaying Blue Badges can also park:

• on single or double yellow lines (except where there is a ban on loading or unloading) for up to 3 hours. Clocks must be displayed.
• free of charge and without time limit where on-street pay & display parking facilities apply.

The disabled badge must always be correctly displayed

Take care, a Blue Badge must not be used to park in any of the following places:

• Where a loading ban is in force (shown by yellow kerb dashes)
• Where there are double white lines in the centre of the road (even if one of the lines is a broken line)
• In a bus lane during its hours of operation
• In a cycle lane
• On a pedestrian crossing area
• On a footway or pavement
• Next to a dropped footway or on a raised carriageway where pedestrians or vehicles need access to the road
• In a bay marked for other types of vehicles, such as an ambulance, taxi or loading bay
• In a loading bay, in a residents bay, in a business bay
• In a permit holders only bay
• Personalised disabled bays
• On school ‘keep clear’ markings
• On a bay or area where parking has been suspended e.g. with yellow signs

There are a number of parking spaces available near the Hilton Canary Wharf. A recommended place to park is in the parking spaces located on Discovery Dock East in London. The spaces are available 24/7 and are close to Canary Wharf and Heron Quays DLR Station. They are suitable for vehicles up to the size of a Van and are located right by Hilton London Canary Wharf. Another excellently located place to park near the Hilton Canary Wharf would be in parking spaces located on Manilla Street. The spaces are suitable for vehicles up to the size of a large 4x4. These spaces are available 6am - 8pm every day, offering convenient short term parking for Canary Wharf and the surrounding areas.

Is there parking near the Novotel Canary Wharf?

There are lots of options to choose from when parking near the Novotel Canary Wharf. For short-term parking, you can pre-book spaces on Manilla Street. These spaces are available 6am – 8pm every day and are suitable for vehicles up to the size of a large 4x4.
