Aintree Racecourse is located on the A59, just one mile from the M57 and M58, which link the M62 and M6.

The get to the racecourse, you need to follow the A59 to Liverpool and the yellow/tourism signs to guide you to the car parks.

There is parking for up to 1,800 cars on-site, which is available for free on non-Grand National meetings and events.

For the Randox Health Grand National Festival, car parking is limited, must be booked in advance and charges apply.  Drive up and park options are not available.

Park & Ride

A 'Park & Ride' coach service operates for the Grand National meeting from Brookfield School in Kirkby (signposted off J6, M57 motorway) transferring racegoers to and from the racecourse.

If you’re heading to Aintree for the Grand National or any other race day, you should set aside some time to explore the beautiful surroundings.

The city of Liverpool is bustling with activity on the days of the Grand National. Restaurants and bars are filled with race enthusiasts and offer a fantastic atmosphere for a pre-race drink or meal.

For a bit of retail therapy, you can explore the city’s many shops.  Head to John Lewis for an all-in-one shopping experience, or explore Bold Street’s boutiques and second-hand stores.

For something a bit more laid-back, you can head to Crosby beach where you can walk along the dunes, go for a swim, or admire the famous Iron Men sculptures.

Train: The nearest mainline station to Aintree is Liverpool Lime Street. 

Liverpool Central Station is within a short walk from Lime Street, where you can catch a train to Aintree.

Aintree Station is directly opposite the racecourse. It serves regular trains on race days (every at least 15 minutes, or more frequently during The Randox Health Grand National Festival).

Car: The main entrance to the racecourse via Grand National Avenue is just off Ormskirk Road (A59).

• From South Leave M6 at J21A and join M62 west. Leave M62 at J6 to join M57, then follow signs for races.

• From North Leave M6 at J26 and join M58, then follow signs for races.

• From Mersey Tunnels follow signs for Preston, then for A59, then follow the signs for races.

Coaches: You can travel directly to The Grand National Festival with National Express from 13 UK locations

Buses: Bus services 300, 310 and 345 both to and from Liverpool travel to Aintree Racecourse.

Air: The closest airport is Liverpool John Lennon Airport, which is a 20-minute drive away. 

From the airport, you can take a bus to Liverpool South Parkway Merseyrail station where you can catch a train to Aintree [change at Liverpool Central or Moorfields onto the Ormskirk train].

The journey takes approximately 1 hour. Manchester Airport is approximately a 45-minute drive by road.
