The Bentall Centre, or as it is also known locally as Bentalls, is a substantial sized shopping centre in Kingston upon Thames in Greater London and opened in 1992. It includes 75 stores which offer well over 1,000 brands from fashion to cuisine and drink with the likes of Apple, Hollister, And Other Stories and Hugo Boss. It is owned by Meyer Bergman.
Construction began in 1987 and took five years to complete the five level department store with an adjoining four level shopping centre, which would have over 100 retailer units on offer. The main atrium in the shopping centre has a claim to fame, and is higher than the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral and the nave of Westminster Abbey in London. Another substantial showcase is the escalator that spans from the ground to the second floor and is the biggest single truss escalator in the whole world and in the UK. The Bentall Centre was the first shopping centre to adopt a policy of no smoking through the whole of the centre.
Bentalls is one of the largest shopping centres and draws in over 13.4 million shoppers yearly.
