It was once a medieval palace, then a Tudor royal residence, and was then transformed by the millionaires Stephen and Virginia Courtauld. The grounds are home to London's oldest working bridge, and you’ll also find a café, shop, playground, and public toilets here too. 

The gardens have a rock garden, moat, medieval bridge, rose garden, and a herbaceous border. The gardens won a gold award in the London Bloom Awards 2017, and there is also a glasshouse café with alfresco dining options. The interior of the house is a mix of Art Deco and Swedish design, and you’ll even find a bathroom with a gold mosaic niche and a statue of the goddess Psyche.

The Orangery Lane car park offers 15 minutes of parking for 30p, and 30 minutes of parking for a total of 60p, and there are also yearly passes available for £700.00. You can park for free here from 5:30pm to 9am, Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sundays.

How accessible is Eltham Palace? 

There are accessible toilets and a lift next to the multimedia collection point in the first part of the building on the left after crossing the moat bridge. There are audio tours available, and assistance dogs are welcome throughout the grounds. 

Please note that access to the basement, Great Hall Dias and the Minstrel’s Gallery is by stairs only.

Avery Hill Park is home to the Sparrows Lane Sports Ground, Charlton Athletic F.C. Training Ground, Footscray Playing Fields, and the London Electricity Sports and Social Association. It has been awarded a Green Flag and has walking trails, cycle paths, an outdoor gym, table tennis, public toilets, and a playground. The Tudor Barn Eltham is another historic spot, with a 16th-century barn surrounded by gardens and a moat. There are also two outdoor terraces and a restaurant. Just a little bit north of that is the Severndroog Castle, which dates back to the 18th century and has an observation deck which overlooks the forest and has views of London.
