Hengistbury Head is a peninsula that sticks out into the English Channel between Bournemouth and Mudeford in the county of Dorset. The site is of global significance and renown for substantial archaeological finds. Today, Hengistbury Head is a major tourist attraction with stunning walks and a visitor centre to learn all about its history and see dug up artefacts. Another attraction is the land train, known as ‘the noddy train’, which takes around 10 minutes, runs from the café to the end of the spit. The Hengistbury Head Outdoor Education centre runs water and outdoor activities.
The Spit houses 300 of some of the UK’s most expensive private beach huts and has become one of the UK’s most desired areas. Huts are rented out for as much as £600 a week and some being put on the market for £1 million pounds in 2015.

Parking at Hengistbury Head
The car park closest to Hengistbury Head is the Broadway pay and display car park (BH6 4EN) which has 700 spaces and five disabled bays. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Charges apply at all times at this car park. Though overnight parking is allowed, the car park is locked between 10.00pm and 5.00am and you cannot move your car during this time. Disabled blue badge holders are not exempt from charges.

Solent Beach pay and display car park (BH6 4DX) has 550 spaces. This is situated 200 metres away from Hengistbury head, but closer to the popular beach. There are no disabled bays in this car park. Charges apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Public Transport
By Train:
Christchurch train station (BH23 1PL) is around a 14 minute car drive or a 27 minute bus with a short walk away from Hengistbury Head.
Bournemouth train station (BH8 8HX) is around a 20 minute car drive or a 36 minute bus, followed by the land train from Hengistbury Head.
Bournemouth and Christchurch are run by South Western Railway.
Bournemouth and Christchurch both have trains to and from London Waterloo, Manchester Piccadilly, Southampton Central and Weymouth.

By Bus:
The number 33 is the main bus that stops at the Broadway shops, which is an eight minute walk away from Hengistbury Head. There are other buses available to get that stop further away in Bournemouth.

Hengistbury Head lies five miles from Bournemouth near the B3509. The closest A road is the A338 and A35. The closest motorway is the M27 and M3.

By Ferry:

Bournemouth international airport (BH23 6SE) is a 17 minute drive or an one hour and 34 minute bus ride (two changes) away from Hengistbury Head.

Disabled Parking at Hengistbury Head
At the Broadway car park there are five disabled spaces available. Parking charges apply to blue badge holders. Blue badges still need to be displayed in vehicles at all times.
Charges start from £2.20 for up to one hour in peak season and £1.90 for up to two hours in low season.
There are no disabled spaces in Solent Beach car park.
