Parking at St Helier Hospital
Parking at St Helier Hospital is limited, so visitors are advised to use alternative forms of transport whenever possible.
St Helier Hospital parking is free for the first 20 minutes, and then the following costs apply:

- Up to 2 hours: £5.00
- Up to 3 hours: £6.50
- Up to 4 hours: £8.00
- Up to 5 hours: £10.00
- Up to 6 hours: £14.50
- More than 6 hours (daily maximum): £17.00
To pay for parking, take a ticket when you enter the car park, then go to a pay machine before you return to your vehicle to leave. The machines accept cash, credit and debit.
If you have not been seen within an hour of your appointment time, you will only have to pay £2.50 for parking.
If your appointment goes for at least an hour longer than it should have, you will only have to pay for the first hour of parking (£3.00).
The following people are entitled to a £5 per week inclusive rate ticket:
- Outpatients visiting the hospital 3 or more times a week.
- Patients receiving haemodialysis.
- Parents staying overnight on the paediatric wards.
- The family or next of kin visiting patients in any of the following areas:
- Intensive Care Unit
- High Dependency Unit
- Coronary Care Unit
- Neo-Natal Unit
- End of Life Care referrals
- Cardiac rehabilitation patients who are visiting the hospital on a 6-week (or longer) rehabilitation programme.
- Outpatients receiving Oncology treatment and visiting the hospital 2 or more times per week.
The relatives of patients who have been hospitalised for any longer than 2 weeks can purchase a £10 weekly discounted ticket after that first 2 weeks.
There are several restricted areas where you may not park. If you do park in these locations, you will be issued a parking charge notice:
- Bays marked for disabled badge holders only (if you don’t have a blue badge)
- Staff parking
- Areas marked for specific vehicles (e.g. ambulances)
- Any area marked for a specific usage (e.g. pick-up and drop-off bays)
- Any area where parking has been suspended
- Boxed areas marked in yellow paint
- Double yellow lines
There is a dedicated parking area for motorbikes near the entrance to Ferguson House. This doesn’t cost anything, and there are secure locking posts available. You will also find a covered bicycle shelter with locking hoops outside the main entrance on Wrythe Lane. There is also a bicycle parking area opposite D Block.

By Train: The St Helier train station is a 20-minute walk from the hospital and services the Thameslink line.
By Bus: Several bus lines run by St Helier Hospital, including 151, 157, S1, S4, 154, 164 and 280. 151, 157, S1 and S4 all stop directly outside the hospital.
By Car: You will find St Helier Hospital 8 minutes’ drive from Sutton, 5 minutes’ drive from Carshalton, and 7 minutes’ drive from the Morden town centre.
Disabled Parking at St Helier Hospital
There are free parking bays that offer free parking for up to 3 hours for blue badge holders. You’ll find these outside of the A&E department, Queen Mary's, Maternity, D-Block, and Renal, as well as in the main visitor car park.
Please note that blue badge holders cannot park on double yellow lines or within box junctions, or within staff areas. Please make sure to properly display your badge and clock when using hospital car parks.

When was St Helier Hospital built?
Queen Mary laid the first foundation stone in 1938, and the first patient was admitted in 1941, although construction didn’t completely finish in 1942. And then, less than a month after construction finished, the hospital was hit by a bomb during a raid in World War Two. It was hit again by two more bombs in June 1944. Of course, it rebuilt, and is still going strong today.
