Seaton, also known as Seaton Down, is a seaside town of around 9,000 people about 45 minutes’ drive from Exeter. It lies along the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back 185 million years of geological history. Rock formations here date as far back as the Triassic period, and spots like the nearby Hooken Cliffs are a great spot to find fossils. As for human habitation, there is evidence of forts dating back as far as the Iron Age.
Seaton Beach is a mile-long pebbled beach, and is a highlight of the town. You can rent paddle boards and kayaks down by the water, and dogs are allowed all year round. The esplanade is a flat walkway along the water, and leads into the town centre where you can find plenty of spots to enjoy a meal on the waterfront.
