The maximum stay is the charging period of 8am to 3pm, or 23 hours when charging doesn’t apply. 

You will also find a car park at the Manor Park Country Park. There are 100 parking spaces available, as well as 5 disabled spaces, and 30 spaces in the overflow car park. The cost of parking here is £1.30 per day from Monday to Friday, and £2 per day during the weekend and on bank holidays. 

There is a car park at the Leybourne Lakes Country Park which is open from 7:30am until dusk. You should only park here for as long as the car park is open, as it locks overnight and you may receive a parking fine for leaving your car here overnight. It will cost £1.20 to park for less than 4 hours, and £4 for more than 4 hours of parking.

St Leonard's Tower dates back to between 1077 and 1108, and is the only remaining part of a castle that was originally built there. No one is sure who built the castle, but one popular theory is that it was Gundulf, Bishop of Rochester, who also founded St Mary’s Abbey. Otherwise, it is thought to possibly have been built by the Bishop Odo of Bayeux, who was the half-brother of William the Conqueror.

By Train: The West Malling train station is about 10 minutes’ walk from the High Street and services the southeastern line.

Has anyone famous ever lived in West Malling? 

During the Second World War, the Guy Penrose Gibson, a famous Wing Commander, stationed at the RAF West Malling (which is now the Kings Hill development). He famously led the Dam Busters raid in 1943, which used bouncing bombs to destroy two major dams and cause extensive flooding across the Ruhr area of Germany. He completed over 170 missions and was awarded a Victoria Cross before being killed in action in 1944.
