Porthmadog is a coastal town in the north of Wales. You can pay for parking with cash at the car park, or you can pay online using the PayByPhone app for iOS and Android. 

Residents can apply for a local parking ticket to park at one long-stay park near their home. This costs £60 per year, and will cost £20 to be reissued if you lose your ticket. You must live within a certain distance of a long-stay car park, and you must only use the ticket at the car park named on the ticket. 

Residents can also apply for a residents’ parking permit at a cost of £50 each year. If you are eligible for a second permit, this will cost £80. You can also purchase a visitors’ parking permit, so your guests can park in a residential bay for up to 24 hours. These permits are sold in packs of 10, and a pack costs £5.

Porthmadog is surrounded by the Snowdonia National Park. This park is 823 square miles of mountains, lakes, and greenery, and is the largest National Park in Wales. Black Rock Sands Beach is about 10 minutes’ drive away. You can drive your vehicle on the beach, and there’s a designated launching area so you can bring your own boat for an afternoon on the water. The local sand dunes have been declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and you could be fined up to £20,000 for driving on them. Dogs are allowed on the beach, just make sure to keep them out of the dog exclusion zone and put them on a leash if told to.

By Train: The Porthmadog train station services the Transport for Wales line. 

By Bus: There are several bus lines that run through Porthmadog, including 1, 1R, 1S, 3, 3B, 39, and S97.
