The Royal Stoke Hospital is located on Newcastle Road, just outside of the Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre. Around 500,000 people visit the outpatients centre each year, and it has around 6,000 staff, making it one of the largest hospitals in the country. 

There is a bus service between the Royal Stoke and County Hospitals that operates on an hourly basis. Patients and visitors can reserve a seat on this bus for free. This service operates from 6am until 10pm, on the hour, every hour, during the week. On weekends, it runs from 8am until 5pm, running every two hours. 

The hospital offers free-WiFi for all patients and visitors, but if you want faster internet for things like streaming videos, there is a premium Wi-Fi service which you will need to pay for. The prices are as follows:

Hospital Radio Stafford has been broadcasting to Royal Stoke University Hospital, County Hospital, Cannock Chase hospital, and Katharine House Hospice since 1972, and is completely free to listen to, 24 hours a day, all year long. It is run by volunteers, and patients can make music requests. 

Wheelchairs are available from the entrance of all of the hospital’s buildings. Please note that some wheelchairs are coin-operated. You will also find free telephone points throughout the hospital, and they all have a taxi contact which you can also use for free. 

The hospital offers a restaurant overlooking the main entrance atrium, as well as coffee outlets by the main entrance and in the Lyme Building entrance. There is a Royal Voluntary Service outlet located at the entrance of the Maternity Centre, and a WHSmith near the main entrance.

• Patients who visit the hospital for several days throughout the week.
• Relatives of terminally ill patients who are visiting on a daily basis.
• Relatives of patients likely to be an inpatient for longer than two weeks.
• Relatives visiting for long periods of time outside normal visiting hours.

Patients who are using renal services, maternity services, critical care, high-dependency and cancer services can apply for exemption from parking charges. 

You can pay for parking at the Royal Stoke Hospital over the phone, or by using the APCOA Connect app on your phone. There is a 20p administration fee when paying for the app, and then you’ll just pay as usual for parking by entering the location code for your park (1521 for Car Parks H and I, and code 1520 for all others).

Please note that car parks H and I are pay-on-exit car parks, and you do not need to obtain and display a parking ticket to use them. When you go to exit, visit a pay machine before you get back into your car and enter your registration number into the machine. It will calculate how much you owe, and then once you have paid, the barriers will raise to let you leave. All other car parks are pay and display, so you will need to obtain a parking ticket when you arrive at the park.

By Train: The Stoke-on-Trent train station is about 7 minutes’ drive from the hospital and services the Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, E M R, West Midlands Trains, and northern lines. 

By Bus: Several bus lines stop at the hospital, including 1, 1A Orange, 1B, 9 Yellow, 22, and 25. 

By Car: The Royal Stoke Hospital is about 3 minutes’ drive from the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme, just off the A34.

Disabled parking is available outside all main buildings at the Royal Stoke Hospital, and there are also a number of 20-minute drop-off zones also available. Blue badge holders will still have to pay for parking. However, blue badge holders can park for an extra 30 minutes between paying and exiting in car parks H and I, and for an extra 60 minutes in all other car parks.
