Parking in Central Peterborough
Parking in central Peterborough is tricky, due to the Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ). This means that every street has some kind of parking restriction. Parking restrictions to look out for are:
- Pay and Display car parks
- Double yellow lines, where you can't park
- Single yellow lines, where you can only park at some times. Be sure to check the signs when parking on these

Public Transport
Car
Peterborough is easily accessible from London by car in 2h, via the M11. Cambridge, Canterbury and Southend-on-Sea are all within driving distance for a day trip. If you’re heading to Birmingham, take the M6 and M1, or if you’re travelling onto Leicester it’s the M1 and A14.
Train
Peterborough train station has regular trains to London and the surrounding areas. There is a Virgin East Coast Line direct to London (50 minutes), Newcastle, Edinburgh and also to Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, Lincoln, Norwich, Ipswich and Cambridge. There is also a station car park, with a daily charge of £15 and an off peach charge of £7.
Disabled Parking in Peterborough
As you may already know, that Blue Badge allows you to park in more places, for longer, and often free of charge!
Take care, however, as many of the parking tariffs still apply to Blue Badge holders in car parks in Peterborough. With the exception of Northminster multi-storey, an additional hour to your chosen session will be added if you are a Blue Badge holder. Take note as specially adapted vehicles are exempt from these charges, which is defined as a vehicle adapted to be accessible by a wheelchair.
With a valid Blue Badge, you can park on:
- Any on-street pay and display space, no maximum stay and free of charge. This also applies to resident parking permit restricted areas
- Any on-street space labelled with the Blue Badge sign. Check signs as some spaces may be limited to 3 hours.
- Double and single yellow lines for up to three hours, unless there is a ban on loading or unloading. Again, check local signs for any additional local restrictions.
- Any on-street limited waiting bay, all day

Can you park overnight at Peterborough Train Station?
You can park overnight in the station’s long stay car park at a 24h rate. The main station charges £15 per day, with a weekly charge of £49. There is also the Mayor’s Walk Car Park with a special weekend rate available Friday to Monday at £17.00, this must be purchased from the Travel Centre prior to travel. The Spittle Bank car park is also nearby.
Do you have to pay for parking on Bank Holidays?
In car parks in Peterborough charges apply 7 days a week, including on Bank Holidays. This is the same for parking at Queensgate car park, however, parking is free after 5.30pm in the Blue, Red and Green car parks on Thursdays and Fridays. There is no free on-street parking in Peterborough on Bank Holidays.
What time does Queensgate car park open?
Queensgate car park is open Monday – Saturday from 9am. On Sundays, the car park opens at 10:30am and on Bank Holidays the car park opens at 10am. Parking is free after 5.30pm in the Blue, Red and Green car parks on Thursdays and Fridays.
How much is parking in Peterborough centre?
Parking in Peterborough town centre varies depending on location. Much of the parking available is in parking lots with differing tariffs, rather than on-street parking. Charges apply 24 hours a day. Daytime tariffs apply between 7am and 5pm and evening tariffs between 5pm and 7am. Bishops Road car park is £1.30 for up to 1 hour, and is one of the more expensive central car parks. Market multi-storey car park is £1 an hour, up to £5.50 for 10 hours. Some of the car parks only allow permit holders during peak times, check local signs.
