Wadebridge is a small town, and one of Cornwall’s main market havens. It holds the entrance to the Camel Trail, which is the current 3rd biggest attraction within the whole of Cornwall. Wadebridge sits in the parish of North Cornwall and was initially known as Wade, until a bridge was created back in the 15th century and the name reverted to Wadebridge. At one point, Wadebridge was the key route of trade from the River Camel, bringing coal from South Wales and goods from Bristol. This was until the formation of the railway in 1834 that was in service until 1967.
Throughout the first World War, the town of Wadebridge became a home to refugees from both Belgium and Holland. A Park Street home was renovated into a Calvinist chapel to help them. Then during the whole of the second World War, there were only three bombs dropped in the vicinity of Wadebridge, on a hill, there was insignificant damage and no casualties were reported.
Wadebridge’s centrally pivotal location means it acts as a base to explore more of North Cornwall’s attractions and beauty. Close to beaches, countryside and spectacular seaside based Cornish towns and villages, it is a place with many things to do. Wadebridge is also often an inclusion of the ‘Best Places to Live list’ in the newspaper The Sunday Times.

Nearby Attractions
Wadebridge is a haven of adventure, with an array of activities to partake in, galleries, museums and historical houses and castles to visit. It is home to the entrance of Cornwall’s third most popular attraction, the Camel Trail, that was made on a disused 11 mile railway, which used to be the route of the Atlantic Express from London to the West of England. The trail snakes its way alongside the estuary running between Wadebridge and Padstow, before creeping up the hills of Bodmin Moor and Blisland. It provides some of the most magnificent views in the whole of England and is an extremely well liked trail for cyclists and walkers alike.
In nearby villages such as Egloshayle which is a 3 minute drive or 20 minute walk, there is the public house, which dates back to the 12th century, ‘The Earl of St Vincent’ to visit. Or perhaps the gorgeous Elizabethan manor Prideaux Place, which has a view over the charmingly scenic fishing harbour of Padstow, a 20 minute drive away.
For those seeking beach days, Wadebridge is situated within a 10 mile driving radius to a variety of beaches, from a surfers paradise, to family and dog friendly, or those romantic coves. Harlyn Bay (9.5 miles), St George’s Cove (8.5 miles), Polzeath (7 miles) and Constantine Bay (10 miles).
