Parking in Nottingham
Information about Parking in Nottingham
You won’t be stuck for activities in Nottingham, from exploring the Sherwood Forest, the incredible history of Robin Hood and Nottingham Castle, or shopping and dining in vibrant Nottingham city.
With a great range of historic, creative, and picturesque sites in the city centre, Nottingham has lots to offer. However, the parking landscape isn’t quite as welcoming. Car parks are often expensive, making it difficult for people to be able to travel by car into town on a regular basis. And although there are a variety of short, medium and long-term spaces across the city, long-term pay and display is not available in very busy locations, such as in the centre of Nottingham.
YourParkingSpace offers plenty of different off-street parking opportunities, including overnight parking Nottingham town centre. You can even park for cheap moments from the City’s top attractions, including parking in Nottingham Lace Market, near the National Justice Museum and close to the Old Market Square.
Both long term and short-term parking is available with our hourly and weekly booking options. The best part is, YourParkingSpace is available 24 hours of the day 7 days a week. Download our free app so you can browse for spaces on the go!
Parking in Central Nottingham
It can be tricky to park in Nottingham city centre due to the Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ). This means that every street has some kind of parking restriction at some point in time. Parking is free in Nottingham between 8pm – 8am outside of restricted hours. Nottingham street parking tariffs are divided into Zones 1,2,3. Zone 3 has cheapest parking, with 25p per half hour Monday – Saturday, and Zone 1 is £1 per half hour.
Parking restrictions to keep an eye out for include:
Centrally located Pay and Display bays. These bays charge a minimum of £1 for street parking and this applies in all zones. There is no maximum stay limit.
Double yellow lines, where you can't park
Single yellow lines, where you can only park at some times, unless you are a blue badge holder. Be sure to check the signs when parking.
Where there are chevrons on the kerb this means that no loading/unloading activity is allowed to take place.
You can only use a Nottingham parking permit to park in permit bays and shared permit and pay & display bays within your parking zone. Even with a resident permit, you cannot park in pay & display bays (within their hours of operation), loading bays, disabled bays, doctor bays, on single or double yellow lines or in suspended parking bays.
No one wants a Nottingham parking ticket! On the YourParkingSpace map, we make sure that we only offer parking spaces with no restrictions so you need no permit and can rest assured you won’t get any fines.

Disabled Parking
Disabled parking in Nottingham is managed by the Blue Badge Scheme. A Blue Badge allows you to park in more places, often for longer times and for cheaper.
Many off-street car parks in Nottingham will offer disabled spaces, but these may be limited so check the signs before parking. You must make sure to use your Blue Badge time disk when parking.
Where you can use it
In general, you can use your badge for parking:
- on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours, unless there is a ban on loading or unloading
- at 'on-street' parking meters and pay-and-display machines for free and for as long as you need to
- in disabled parking bays. You can find out which car parks have disabled parking bays by checking the car parks information on the relevant council website.
Where you cannot use it
The Blue Badge is not a licence to park anywhere. If you park where it would cause an obstruction or danger to other road users you could be in for a Nottingham parking fine, or have your vehicle removed.
Particular places where you must not park include:
- where a ban on loading or unloading is in force
- where parking places are reserved for specific users such as resident’s bays or loading bays
- pedestrian crossings (zebra, pelican, toucan and puffin crossings), including areas marked by zig-zag lines
- clearways (no stopping)
- a bus stop clearway during its hours of operation
- an urban clearway within its hours of operation. You may only pick up or drop off passengers
- school 'keep clear' markings during the hours shown on a yellow no-stopping plate
- Bus, tram or cycle lanes or cycle tracks
- Where there are double white lines in the centre of the road (even if one of the lines is broken)
- Where temporary parking restrictions are in force, as shown by no-waiting cones or temporary signs.
Displaying your badge
Make sure the badge is facing upwards so that the details on the front can be clearly seen and it should be placed on the dashboard.
You will get a time clock with your badge which must also be displayed when you are parking on a parking restriction, such as a double or single yellow line. Many disabled bays also have time restrictions and you must check the signs before leaving your vehicle.
Displaying the badge and clock on your dashboard helps the Nottingham parking Enforcement Officers check that the badge is valid and that you have not exceeded the parking time.
