The Lysaght Institute was built to commemorate and celebrate the contributions of John Lysaght, chairman of the Orb Steelworks, and the company’s 3,500-strong workforce. Facilities for workers and their families included a ballroom, a bowling green, tennis courts and a billiard room. After the closure of the Orb Steelworks in 2001, the Lysaght Institute was turned into a community centre and a venue for weddings, conferences and parties, so guests can enjoy the beautiful Art Deco building and its landscaped gardens to this day.
