The railway reached Fallowfield in 1891, and Fallowfield Station opened on the 1st of October. The station closed to passengers in July of 1958, but the railway line was still used for another 30 years by freight and express trains. Today, the main building of the station is home to the Great Central, a pub with TV screens, Wi-Fi, and a licensed outdoor area. Most of the station has been demolished and is now the site of the Fallowfield Sainsbury’s Superstore.
The Great Central is open from 8am to 11:30pm, Sunday to Thursday, and then from 8am to 12:30am on Friday and Saturday. It offers plenty of breakfast options, with American-style and classic English breakfasts, with vegan and vegetarian options. For lunch and dinner, it has a wide range of meals including gourmet burgers, salads, pasta, pizza, curries, fish and chips, and other pub classics. There is a children’s menu, as well as a Fish Friday and a Sunday Brunch.
The Fallowfield Sainsbury’s Superstore is open from 8am to 11pm, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 10pm on Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. It has a café, pharmacy, ATM, accessible toilets, free Wi-Fi, self-checkouts, and Click & Collect, as well as a car park.
