Gorse Hill City Farm, is a non-profit organisation which resides 3 miles from the centre of the city of Leicester in the East Midlands region of England. It was formed by a group of 30 residents of the city in 1985, who had procured supervision of unkempt allotments that used to be situated on the site where the farm now stands. On Boxing day of 1985 the site was formally signed over to Friends of Leicester City Farm and five years later became a fully fledged charity which was devoted in offering learning and entertaining facilities of visitors of all kinds.
Gorse Hill City Farm is open 365 days a year from 10.00am to 4.30pm from April to October and 10.00am to 4.00pm November to March. There are over 100 animals, such as lambs, chicks, pigs and ponies to see across nine paddocks, including a goat house and indoor housing for smaller animals, as well as a aviary. You can feed them and even get up close and personal in special meet and greets. It is a ‘Rare Breed Survival Trust (RBST) approved city farm’, the only one in the East Midlands and one of three across the whole of the Midlands.
Besides animals, there is a children’s play around for imaginations to run wild and you can chill out in the picnic area watching them. There is also an onsite Farmers Hut Café offering a broad range of delicious foods from full English breakfasts to burgers for lunch and vegan and vegetarian options, as well as a children’s menu.
