Largs is a coastal town home to around 11,000 people, located in the area of North Ayrshire in Scotland. The town has a long history with the Vikings, and you can visit the Largs Pencil Monument which was built to commemorate the defeat of the Vikings at the Battle of Largs in 1263.

The festival has been held annually in October for most years since 1892. The Vikingar! Leisure Centre and Attraction is home to the Viking Experience, Barrfields Pavilion Theatre, a 25-metre pool, a cycling studio, and a KA Fitness Studio. The Viking Experience will teach you all about the Viking Gods, and the daily life of the Vikings. There’s also a cinema presentation, and a Viking Hall of Knowledge for you to explore. Largs is surrounded by the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park which covers around 280 square kilometres and has a number of visitor centres, woodland walks, and nature trails. You can go sailing on the Castle Semple Loch, or climb Windy Hill where you can see as far as Glasgow and Loch Lomond on a clear day. 

The Kelburn Castle and Estate is about 5 minutes’ drive from the centre of Larg, and is known for its uniquely painted exterior. They’re open daily from 10am to 5pm, with a café which is open from 11am to 4pm on weekdays, and 11am to 5pm on weekends. Entry to the grounds is free, and the Secret Forest has an entry fee of just £3 per person. Here, there are a number of trails and walks to explore, plus space to go camping. There’s also a horse riding centre, and outdoor play areas for children.
