Landguard Fort is looked after by the Landguard Fort Trust and English Heritage association, which allows it to be open for the public to explore.

Felixstowe has a lot on offer and is a blend of old and new. One of the best attractions in Felixstowe is the Landguard Fort, which is steeped in a rich history as well as the nature reserve, a stone's throw away. The Fort resides on the site, where the last contested invasion of England occurred in 1667 and the first battle (Duke of York) on land. The Fort seen today was built in the 18th Century and altered in the 19th and 20th century greatly. Now the Fort sees frequent re-enactment of Military kind, as well as the still celebrated Darrell’s Day, which marked the last invasion, open air theatres and children’s events.

For those after a beach day out, Felixstowe has a sandy and pebble stone beach on offer from north and south of the pier. You may even get a peek at low tide at The Dip, where the remains of Walton Castle, a Roman Saxon shore fort, that was constructed as far back as 276 to 285 AD and was lost to the sea at some point in the 18th century.

By Train:

Felixstowe Train Station (IP11 9UD) is at the very end of the Felixstowe Branch line.It provides local services from the Greater Anglia line to the city of Ipswich, where you can pick up connections that take you to places such as Norwich, London and Cambridge. The Greater Anglia website has details on arrivals, departures and details on purchasing tickets.

By Bus:

Ipswich Buses and First Norfolk and Suffolk are the two main bus operators in Felixstowe, the following buses provide services to and from Felixstowe in and around the Suffolk area:

X7, 75, 77 and 76 (First Norfolk and Suffolk Buses) and 173, 174 (Ipswich Buses) as well as open top bus only in service during the Summer.

By Car:

Felixstowe sits at the end of the A14 (which runs all the way West to Cambridge and to the Midlands), it is reachable from many of the key motorways that run through the country such as the M1, M6 and M25 via the A12.

By Ferry:

The only public ferry service that connects Suffolk and Essex is the Harwich Harbour Foot and Bicycle Ferry. This runs from John Bradfield view point in Felixstowe, across to Shotley and Harwich.

Another service between Felixstowe and Bawdsey (foot and bicycle ferry), runs daily between May and September from 10am to 5pm (weather permitting). During October the ferry only runs on the weekend.
