Felixstowe, is home to the biggest Port in the entire UK and possesses water so deep, it is able to provide dock to the worlds most recent generation of deep draughted Ultra post-Panamax vessels. The port even possesses its own personal police authority and Port police, as well as their own collaborative fire and ambulance services, it is a town within a town.
Felixstowe is the home of the Landguard fort, which played major roles throughout history. In both of the world wars, the Fort was used countlessly as the HeadQuarters of the Harwich Harbour coast, the control station for entrance to the harbour, a radar and radio station and for anti-aircraft defences. Landguard Fort is looked after by the Landguard Fort Trust and English Heritage association, which allows it to be open for the public to explore.

Nearby Attractions
Felixstowe has a lot on offer and is a blend of old and new. One of the best attractions in Felixstowe is the Landguard Fort, which is steeped in a rich history as well as the nature reserve, a stone's throw away. The Fort resides on the site, where the last contested invasion of England occurred in 1667 and the first battle (Duke of York) on land. The Fort seen today was built in the 18th Century and altered in the 19th and 20th century greatly. Now the Fort sees frequent re-enactment of Military kind, as well as the still celebrated Darrell’s Day, which marked the last invasion, open air theatres and children’s events.
For those after a beach day out, Felixstowe has a sandy and pebble stone beach on offer from north and south of the pier. The Pier itself is a place full of fun and excitement, with rides for children and amusement fun on the slot machines for all the family. Or maybe a little bite on the ocean in the café followed by a parent versus children crazy golf.
You may even get a peek at low tide at The Dip, where the remains of Walton Castle, a Roman Saxon shore fort, that was constructed as far back as 276 to 285 AD and was lost to the sea at some point in the 18th century.
