Deal is a coastal town about 20 minutes’ drive north of Dover. On clear days, you can look across the English Channel and see the coast of France. It is home to Deal Castle, built in 1540 by King Henry VIII. There is a popular cycle route along the coast, which takes you to the town’s second castle; Walmer Castle. Walmer Castle also has about 32 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland. 

Deal’s pier is located right in the heart of the town, and offers a glass-walled café with fantastic views of the channel. You can also rent fishing rods to fish off the pier for a small fee. There is a fishing competition every month, as well as midnight fishing every Saturday until 8am. Deal Braderie is the annual street market, and it stretches from Deal High Street, selling clothing, jewellery, crafts, antiques, plants, books, and more.

There are several spots to find council parking in Deal:

• Tides car park (a maximum of 4 hours free parking, must use a pay and display ticket, no return within 2 hours)
• Town Hall car park (9am - 5pm, £1.30 per hour, maximum stay of 2 hours, no charge on Sundays) 
• Victoria Road (9am - 5pm, £1.30 per hour, maximum stay of 2 hours, no charge on Sundays) 
• Beach Street South (9am - 5pm, £1.30 per hour, maximum stay of 2 hours, no charge on Sundays)

All of the above car parks accept cash for payment. At some parks, you can use the RingGo app on iOS and Android phones to pay online.

On-street parking permits for residents are available from between £65 to £100 per year, depending on your location. Once you have a permit, you may park in a marked bay without a time limit. You may not park on yellow lines. You can have two registration numbers on one permit, however only one vehicle can make use of the permit at a time.

Deal is about 20 minutes’ drive from Dover. There, you can see the iconic White Cliffs of Dover, or catch a ferry across the channel to Calais, France. By Train: Deal train station is located 5 minutes’ walk from the seafront and services the southeastern line. 

By Bus: Deal is serviced by multiple bus lines, including 80, 81, 82, 82A, 84, 541, 542, 544, X1 and X2. 

By Car: Deal is about 20 minutes’ drive north of Dover, and a 2 hour drive from London. 

Blue badge holders can park for free for up to 3 hours on the street, or for the maximum time period in all of Dover District Council’s car parks. You must display your blue badge so that the expiry date is showing. You can park on a yellow line for up to 3 hours, so long as it is safe to do so and you do not obstruct the road. 

There is disabled parking available at the following council car parks:

• Stanhope Road car park
• Tides car park
• Beach Street car park
• West Street car park
• Union Road car park

If these parks aren’t available, you are free to park in any other type of park, so long as it isn’t a specific loading bay for police, taxi, etc.

Where is Deal located?

Deal sits on the east coast of England, just 20 minutes’ north of Dover. On clear days, you can even see the French coastline across the water. 

What is there to do in Deal?

Deal is a coastal town, so there is plenty of beachfront to explore. The pier has a great café to visit, and you can even rent fishing rods for a small fee. Can I bring my dog to the beach?

Yes, although there are some restrictions: between 9am to 8pm, dogs are not allowed from the stretch of beach between Deal Castle and Sandown Castle. Dogs are allowed on the pier and the promenade between Deal Castle and Sandown Castle, so long as they are kept on a lead.
