Cassiobury Park is located in Watford, to the north-west of London, and in 2017 it was voted as one of the top 10 parks in the UK. Half of the park is made up of woodlands known as the Whippendell Woods, and the area around the river Gade is a local nature reserve due to the wide variety of wildlife found here. The park offers paddling pools, playgrounds, a bandstand, cafés, and even a miniature railway on the weekends and school holidays. There are rooms to rent for meetings or events, as well as sports pitches (including a croquet pitch). 

The park hosts lots of events for kids, and even offers a bouncy castle in the summer. It also offers group walks on Wednesday, runs on Saturdays, monthly group bike rides, and birdwatching on the first Wednesday of each month. There is also live music on the bandstand every Sunday afternoon. You are welcome to bring your dog, so long as it is kept on a leash and out of the river. 

Just north of Watford is the Warner Brothers Studios, Leavesden. This studio is home to sets, props and costumes from the Harry Potter movies, and is one of the largest filmmaking facilities in the world. You can take a guided tour, or explore the facilities yourself.

The parking at Cassiobury Park is free to use for the first two hours (though you’ll still need to use a ticket or the RingGo app), and you can park for a maximum of 6 hours at a time. The costs are as follows:

• 2 - 3 hours: £2
• 3 - 4 hours: £3
• 4 - 5 hours: £4
• 5 - 6 hours: £5

There are 3 ways to pay for your parking:

• With cash or card at one of the pay and display machines (you will be issued a display card),

Failure to display a ticket or book a parking session through RingGo could result in being issued a Penalty Charge Notice.

Cassiobury Park parking is available 7 days a week, although it is limited, and visitors are advised to use public transport or other parking options nearby. Parking at Cassiobury Park is in especially high demand on the weekends and bank holidays. You can find alternative parking in these local car parks:

• The Avenue in Hempstead Road (WD17 4NR)
• Town Hall car park (WD17 3EX)

There is street parking available on many of the roads to the north of the park, but parking restrictions apply for many of these streets so make sure to check signs before you park.

The Warner Brothers Studios, Leavesden is just 10 minutes’ drive away, and has original sets, props and costumes used in the Harry Potter movies. It offers tours of all these sights, as well as showing you behind-the-scenes artwork and visual effects. These tours typically last 3 hours, and the studio can have over 6,000 visitors a day during peak times.

By Train: Watford Junction is a 20-minute walk from the park and services the Avanti West Coast, Caledonian Sleeper, Overground, Southern, and West Midlands Trains lines. Watford High Street is a 20-minute walk from the park and services the Overground line. 

By Bus: The 352 line stops at Watford Station, just 2 minutes’ walk away (this service does not run on Sundays or bank holidays). Many other services, including the 142, 258, 306, 398, 602, 832, 833 and W20 run through the centre of Watford. 

By Car: Watford is located about 40 minutes’ drive north-west of central London.  

By Underground: Watford Station is a 2-minute walk from the park entrance and services the Metropolitan line. 

There isn’t any disabled parking at Cassiobury Park, however, there is disabled parking located throughout Watford. The closest is available at Watford Leisure Centre, less than 10 minutes’ walk away.

How big is Cassiobury Park?

Cassiobury Park is the largest public open space in Watford, and stretches out over 190 acres (77 hectares). About half the park is made up of the Whippendell Woods, which is home to trees that date back over 100 years. 

What is there to do at Cassiobury Park? 

You can pack your own picnic lunch (just not a barbeque), or visit one of the cafés for a bite to eat. There are playgrounds and paddling pools for the kids, as well as lots of organised events including runs and bike rides, walks and live music. On the weekends and during the school holidays, there is a miniature train, and in summer there is a bouncy castle. 

What is the Cassiobury Park Heritage Trail? 

It is a walking trail through the park which explores the history of the park. Follow the trail and visit points of interest to learn about the story of the park. To learn even more, the Watford Museum is just a 20-minute walk from the park. 

Can I bring my dog to Cassiobury Park?

Dogs are allowed in the park, so long as they are kept on a leash and out of the water. Please be sure to clean up after your dog. 

When is Cassiobury Park open? 

The park is open from 7:45am to 10pm, and public toilets on the ground floor of the Cassiobury Park Hub are open from 9am to 5pm. The Cha Café is open from 9am to 4pm, and the Daisy's in the Park café is open from 8am to 6pm. Please note that opening hours have been reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
